I I do not recall a time in my life that I was more concerned about food security for this nation.

With the price of fuel and fertilizer, many farmers are finding it hard to make ends meet. That has the potential for less production this year.

Add to that the drought in many of our nation’s food producing areas that is causing some farmers to not plant due to the lack of water. I understand that the Central Valley of California, which is our nation’s biggest agricultural producing area with 14.5 million acres, too much of which is not being planted due to drought.

We see food prices going up in the store. Many items appear to me to be 50% more expensive than they were this time last year.

I would like to say here that I have always appreciated the work and toil our farmers put into their important work. Our ranchers have faced challenges in bringing a herd to market at a profit and today feed prices are making it that much harder. I really appreciate what farmers and ranchers are doing to keep the nation fed today.

Thank you American farmers and ranchers.
