Major Mark Shull was a rare officer in the US Army in Iraq in 2003. I served with him in the 82 ROC, Oregon National Guard there. Our unit was assigned to run Balad Air base, north of Baghdad. Mark was assigned the task of recruiting Iraqi workers to help with the removal of vegetation around the perimeter of the base. I saw Mark insist on doing what was right, for both the Iraqis he employed, and for our protection. He did not waiver, he did not give in to corruption, laziness nor cynicism as so many others did. From day one until the end of our tour, Mark was a rock. I would proudly serve with him again, under any circumstances. He is the kind of man that should be safeguarding our government and taking our wishes and making them heard and known.

I served with Mark in Iraq in 2003-04, it’s there where I saw his tireless work ethic and leadership first hand. Mark stands for what’s right for our country and Clackamas County. I am very confident he will continue his relentless work ethic and leadership as Clackamas County Commissioner and make the citizens proud to know they have someone standing up for them like Mark.
